Forgotten Champions Premiere

Forty years after they raised Rutgers’ last team championship trophy, the 1981-1982 Lady Knights Basketball squad returned to the Banks to celebrate the win and watch it all again on Saturday, October 8, 2022.

The Elizabeth Ross Johnson Theater at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center was the setting for the world premiere of “Forgotten Champions.” Producers Jon Newman and Geoff Sadow thanked the film’s funders and sponsors, including Rutgers Director of Athletics Pat Hobbs and DEVCO President Chris Paladino. Also on hand, the current Rutgers team who hosted their predecessors at a practice over the weekend. 

The night started off with panel discussions exploring the history of Rutgers women’s basketball and the 50th anniversary of Title IX. Panelists included Hall of Fame Coach Theresa Grentz, 1982 Co-Captain Chris Dailey, Current Head Coach Coquese Washington, Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway and B1G Commissioner Kevin Warren. Rutgers Alumnae Kelly Whiteside moderated the discussions.
